Details
A vulnerability was found in Google Android 15/16/16-qpr2/17. It has been rated as very critical. This issue affects the function doneWithFrame/setMaxFramesInFlight of the component EVS HAL. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a use after free vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-416. Referencing memory after it has been freed can cause a program to crash, use unexpected values, or execute code. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
A Use-After-Free (UAF) vulnerability exists in the EVS HAL, allowing a privileged client to free a `buffer_handle_t` while the producer thread is still using it. This race condition, triggered via `doneWithFrame` and `setMaxFramesInFlight`, enables an attacker to manipulate freed heap memory, potentially leading to the leakage of file descriptors from the EVS HAL process.
