Details
A vulnerability was found in AWS Serverless MCP Server up to 0.2.0. It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown functionality of the component Deployment Status Component. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Improper limitation of a pathname to a restricted directory in the deployment status component of the AWS Serverless MCP Server (aws-serverless-mcp-server) before v0.2.1 might allow an actor who can influence the MCP agent to read the contents of JSON files outside the intended deployment status directory. Where write access has been enabled, to create or overwrite JSON files outside that directory. This issue is reachable through directory traversal sequences or an absolute path supplied in the project name input. To remediate this issue, users should upgrade to version v0.2.1.
The advisory is shared for download at pypi.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-116635 since 10/26/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1006.
Upgrading to version 0.2.1 eliminates this vulnerability.
