FreeRDP up to 3.32.1 Serial Redirection memory allocation

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in FreeRDP up to 3.32.1. This vulnerability affects an unknown function of the component Serial Redirection. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory allocation vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-789. The product allocates memory based on an untrusted, large size value, but it does not ensure that the size is within expected limits, allowing arbitrary amounts of memory to be allocated. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:

FreeRDP before 3.32.2 fails to cap the OutputBufferLength in serial device-control IRP requests, allowing malicious servers to trigger excessive memory allocation. Attackers running a server with serial redirection can send an IRP_MJ_DEVICE_CONTROL request with IOCTL_USBPRINT_GET_1284_ID and a near-maximum length to exhaust client memory.

The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-121405 since 11/03/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.

Upgrading to version 3.32.2 eliminates this vulnerability.
