Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Django Software Foundation Django up to 5.2.18/6.0.9/6.1.2. It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality of the file contrib.gis.gdal of the component GDAL. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a server-side request forgery vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-918. The web server receives a URL or similar request from an upstream component and retrieves the contents of this URL, but it does not sufficiently ensure that the request is being sent to the expected destination. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality. CVE summarizes:

An issue was discovered in Django 6.1 before 6.1.3, 6.0 before 6.0.10, and 5.2 before 5.2.19. `django.contrib.gis.gdal.OGRGeometry` does not restrict external coordinate reference system definitions in GeoJSON input, which allows remote attackers to cause server-side requests to attacker-selected destinations via crafted crs members. Earlier, unsupported Django series (such as 5.1.x, 5.0.x, and 4.2.x) were not evaluated and may also be affected. Django would like to thank Submersion Security Research Team for reporting this issue.

The advisory is shared for download at docs.djangoproject.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-111362 since 10/15/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 11/03/2026).

Upgrading to version 5.2.19, 6.0.10 or 6.1.3 eliminates this vulnerability.
