Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Django Software Foundation Django up to 5.2.18/6.0.9/6.1.2. This affects the function transform of the file django/contrib/gis/gdal/__init__.py of the component SpatialReference. The manipulation of the argument srs/srid with an unknown input leads to a server-side request forgery vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-918. The web server receives a URL or similar request from an upstream component and retrieves the contents of this URL, but it does not sufficiently ensure that the request is being sent to the expected destination. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
An issue was discovered in Django 6.1 before 6.1.3, 6.0 before 6.0.10, and 5.2 before 5.2.19. `django.contrib.gis.gdal.SpatialReference` (and related `transform()` methods and `srs`/`srid` setters) do not restrict GDAL’s file and network access when parsing string input, which allows attackers to trigger server-side requests or local file reads via crafted spatial reference strings. Earlier, unsupported Django series (such as 5.1.x, 5.0.x, and 4.2.x) were not evaluated and may also be affected. Django would like to thank Adraca for reporting this issue.
The advisory is shared at docs.djangoproject.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-114582 since 10/21/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
