Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in MongoDB C Driver up to 1.30.14/2.5.7. This affects an unknown code block. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a uninitialized resource vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-908. The product uses or accesses a resource that has not been initialized. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
The MongoDB C Driver does not validate the type or format of a namespace field returned by the server in a query response. A MongoDB endpoint that a client application connects to, without needing any credentials, can return a malformed value in that field. This causes the client application process to terminate, and can also cause the driver to read memory outside an allocated buffer and to send a small amount of the application's own uninitialized heap memory back to the endpoint in a follow-up command. The impact is limited to the process that embeds the driver.
The advisory is shared at jira.mongodb.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-120956 since 11/03/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 11/03/2026).
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
