Details
A vulnerability was found in Phoenix Contact PLCnext Engineer up to 2026.5. It has been rated as very critical. This issue affects some unknown functionality of the component PFI Plugin. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
The PFI plugin framework deployment routine does not validate path components when extracting archive entries to the local plugin repository. Archive entries containing relative path segments such as '..' are not rejected, allowing an unauthenticated local attacker to write files outside the plugin repository to arbitrary locations accessible with the current user's permissions which could result in full system compromise.
