Details
A vulnerability was found in FreeRDP up to 3.32.1. It has been classified as problematic. Affected is the function rpc_client_recv_fragment of the component RD Gateway RPC Client. The manipulation of the argument alloc_hint/frag_length with an unknown input leads to a buffer overflow vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-120. The product copies an input buffer to an output buffer without verifying that the size of the input buffer is less than the size of the output buffer, leading to a buffer overflow. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:
FreeRDP before 3.32.2 contains a heap-based buffer overflow in the RD Gateway RPC client, where rpc_client_recv_fragment writes BIND_ACK and ALTER_CONTEXT_RESP fragments into a persistent PDU stream after checking only total capacity rather than remaining capacity from the current stream position. A malicious or compromised RD Gateway can send crafted RPC fragments with manipulated alloc_hint and frag_length values to overwrite client heap memory with attacker-controlled data, causing a crash or potentially arbitrary code execution.
The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-121964 since 11/04/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
