Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Kyverno up to 1.19.1. Affected by this issue is the function extractStatement of the component Decompression. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a resource consumption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-400. The product does not properly control the allocation and maintenance of a limited resource, thereby enabling an actor to influence the amount of resources consumed, eventually leading to the exhaustion of available resources. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:
Kyverno from 1.11.0 before 1.19.2 contains an unbounded decompression vulnerability in extractStatement that allows remote attackers to exhaust memory by supplying highly compressed attestation layers. Attackers controlling registry referrer artifacts can push gzip predicate layers exceeding maxPayloadSize when decompressed, causing admission controller OOM kills and denial of service.
The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-122322 since 11/05/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely.
