Details
A vulnerability has been found in Apache OFBiz up to 24.09.07 and classified as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function imageCrop/imageRotate. The manipulation of the argument productId/imageName with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Path traversal and missing authorization check in the imageCrop and imageRotate services in Apache OFBiz through 24.09.07 on all platforms allows a remote authenticated attacker with only Catalog view permission to read arbitrary image-parseable files readable by the OFBiz process, disclosed via re-encoded and republished product content, and to write a re-encoded image to an arbitrary directory writable by the OFBiz process via crafted productId and imageName parameters. Users are recommended to upgrade to version 24.09.08, which fixes this issue.
The advisory is shared at lists.apache.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-76152 since 08/19/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 11/05/2026). MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.
Upgrading to version 24.09.08 eliminates this vulnerability.
