Details
A vulnerability has been found in Tinyhumansai OpenHuman up to 0.57.12 and classified as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown functionality of the component Message Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a os command injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-78. The product constructs all or part of an OS command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended OS command when it is sent to a downstream component. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
OpenHuman is an open-source agent harness available as a desktop application and Rust library. Before version 0.57.13, an attacker who can send messages to a configured external channel can cause the agent to create persistent shell cron jobs without human approval. The scheduler later executes these jobs with the privileges of the OpenHuman runtime user. Command validation also permits leading environment assignments that can redirect allowed commands to executable helpers. The demonstrated exploit requires a suitable helper executable already present on the host. This can lead to unauthorized persistent command execution and compromise data and resources accessible to OpenHuman. This issue is fixed in version 0.57.13.
The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-54143 since 06/11/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1202 for this issue.
Upgrading to version 0.57.13 eliminates this vulnerability.
