SignalWire FreeSWITCH up to 1.11.1 SDES-SRTP parser switch_core_media_add_crypto stack-based overflow

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in SignalWire FreeSWITCH up to 1.11.1. This issue affects the function switch_core_media_add_crypto of the component SDES-SRTP parser. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a stack-based overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-121. A stack-based buffer overflow condition is a condition where the buffer being overwritten is allocated on the stack (i.e., is a local variable or, rarely, a parameter to a function). Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:

FreeSWITCH is a Software Defined Telecom Stack enabling the digital transformation from proprietary telecom switches to a software implementation that runs on any commodity hardware. Prior to 1.11.2, switch_core_media_add_crypto() passed the encoded key and salt length from an inbound SDP a=crypto attribute to switch_b64_decode() as the destination capacity. A zero-length key and salt made that capacity underflow, allowing the decoded attribute to overflow a fixed stack buffer with sender-chosen bytes before the call was answered. On the shipped external profile, an unauthenticated caller can reach the SDES-SRTP parser, while profiles that challenge inbound calls remain affected for senders who can authenticate; setting rtp_secure_media_inbound to false removes the path, and WebRTC DTLS-SRTP legs are unaffected. The overflow corrupts memory and can crash the FreeSWITCH process, dropping every active call, although remote code execution has not been demonstrated. This issue is fixed in version 1.11.2.

The advisory is shared at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-115928 since 10/23/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.

Upgrading to version 1.11.2 eliminates this vulnerability.
