Details
A vulnerability was found in Lektor up to 3.3.14/3.4.0b15. It has been classified as critical. Affected is the function cleanup_path of the component Admin API. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Lektor through 3.3.14 and 3.4.0b15 contains an absolute path traversal vulnerability in the admin API on Windows that allows attackers to escape the project directory by supplying drive-letter paths that cleanup_path does not normalise. Attackers can use a malicious web page with cross-site requests or DNS rebinding against the unauthenticated local server to recursively delete directories via deleterecord or write attacker-controlled files via newattachment.
The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-123619 since 11/06/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
