Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Gen Digital Avast Antivirus, Avast Business Security, Avast One, Avast Premium Security, Avast Ultimate, AVG Antivirus Free, AVG Internet Security, AVG Ultimate, Norton 360 Advanced, Norton 360 Deluxe, Norton 360 Standard and Norton Antivirus Plus up to 26.6. It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects the function Log_NmSvc.message/OpenInSz_NmSvc/OpenInSz_NmSvc.profile of the file ashServ.dll of the component Native Message Dispatcher. The manipulation of the argument origin/profile with an unknown input leads to a type conversion vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-704. The product does not correctly convert an object, resource, or structure from one type to a different type. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:

Missing exception handlers in AvastSvc native message dispatcher (ashServ.dll) on Windows allow a local, unprivileged attacker to crash the service by sending specially crafted JSON messages. The vulnerability spans multiple handler pathways in the RPC-based native message protocol: * Log_NmSvc.message handler: converts JSON fields to strings without type validation and without exception boundaries.  * OpenInSz_NmSvc handler: converts URL and origin fields to strings without type checking, exposing an exception. * OpenInSz_NmSvc.profile handler: converts the profile field to an integer without validation. In all three cases, the exceptions are not caught by action-specific handlers and propagate up the dispatcher. The common root cause is the absence of try-catch blocks around JSON type conversions in the native message processing chain.

The advisory is shared for download at gendigital.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-12067 since 06/12/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
