Details
A vulnerability has been found in freescout-help-desk FreeScout up to 1.8.224 and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown function of the file /app-logs/app of the component App Logs Viewer. The manipulation of the argument folder/file with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
FreeScout is a self-hosted help desk and shared mailbox. Prior to 1.8.225, the administrator-only App Logs viewer accepts Laravel-encrypted folder and file parameters whose constructed path is checked only as a raw string. An administrator who also knows the APP_KEY can supply traversal segments that the filesystem normalizes outside storage/logs. The /app-logs/app route can then read local files accessible to the PHP worker, including environment files, source files, credentials, tokens, and operating-system files. This issue is fixed in version 1.8.225.
The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-62855 since 07/14/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. The exploitation requires an enhanced level of successful authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1006.
Upgrading to version 1.8.225 eliminates this vulnerability.
