Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in sveltejs devalue up to 5.9.2. Affected is the function parse. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a prototype pollution vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-1321. The product receives input from an upstream component that specifies attributes that are to be initialized or updated in an object, but it does not properly control modifications of attributes of the object prototype. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
devalue before 5.9.3 allows malformed null-prototype object keys to bypass parse's __proto__ rejection through property-key coercion, an incomplete fix for GHSA-mwv9-gp5h-frr4. Attackers can supply crafted payloads that yield objects with a __proto__ own property, which alone does not cause prototype pollution.
The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-123561 since 11/06/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.
Upgrading to version 5.9.3 eliminates this vulnerability.
