OpenEMR up to 8.2.x OnsiteDocumentController Query Pid resource injection

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability has been found in OpenEMR up to 8.2.x and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects the function OnsiteDocumentController::Query of the component OnsiteDocumentController. The manipulation of the argument Pid with an unknown input leads to a resource injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-99. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not restrict or incorrectly restricts the input before it is used as an identifier for a resource that may be outside the intended control sphere. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

OpenEMR before 8.3.0 contains an insecure direct object reference vulnerability in OnsiteDocumentController::Query() that allows authenticated portal patients to bypass the lowercase pid authorization guard by supplying a capitalised Pid parameter. Attackers can request the api/onsitedocuments endpoint with Pid set to another patient's id to overwrite the session-pinned criteria and read other patients' onsite documents containing PHI.

The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-124462 since 11/08/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
