Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in OpenEMR. Affected by this issue is an unknown function of the file sqlconf.php of the component Document Download. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Impacted is confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
OpenEMR before 8.4.0 contains an arbitrary local file read vulnerability in REST document download, where the controller passes stored uploaded document bytes to Symfony's BinaryFileResponse as a filesystem path instead of returning them as content. Authenticated users with document upload and download access can upload a document containing an absolute pathname, such as the sqlconf.php location, then download it to read server files and recover database credentials.
