The private filesystem in Drupal 5.x before 5.10 and 6.x before 6.4 trusts the MIME type sent by a web browser, which allows remote authenticated users to conduct cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks by uploading files containing arbitrary web script or HTML.
The bug was discovered 08/13/2008. The weakness was presented 08/27/2008 by Heine Deelstra (Website). The advisory is available at drupal.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2008-3741 since 08/20/2008. The attack can be initiated remotely. Required for exploitation is a single authentication.
