A vulnerability has been found in Telartis Bv AWStats Totals up to 1.1 (Log Management Software) and classified as very critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function multisort of the file awstatstotals.php. The manipulation of the argument sort with an unknown input leads to a code injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-94. The product constructs all or part of a code segment using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the syntax or behavior of the intended code segment. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
awstatstotals.php in AWStats Totals 1.0 through 1.14 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via PHP sequences in the sort parameter, which is used by the multisort function when dynamically creating an anonymous PHP function.
The weakness was published 08/26/2008 by Metasploit (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at telartis.nl. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2008-3922 since 09/04/2008.
