Wireshark (formerly Ethereal) 0.10.14 through 1.0.2 allows attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) via a packet with crafted zlib-compressed data that triggers an invalid read in the tvb_uncompress function.

The bug was discovered 09/03/2008. The weakness was released 09/04/2008 by Thomas Nielsen with Wireshark (Website). The advisory is available at wireshark.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2008-3933 since 09/04/2008. The exploitability is told to be easy. The attack can only be done within the local network.
