The weakness was disclosed 10/21/2011 by Luka Treiber with ACROS Security (Website). The advisory is shared for download at blog.acrossecurity.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2011-3640 since 09/21/2011. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1574.

The real existence of this vulnerability is still doubted at the moment. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 75577 (openSUSE Security Update : libfreebl3 (openSUSE-SU-2011:1241-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family SuSE Local Security Checks and running in the context l.

Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at chrome.google.com. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at code.google.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. A possible mitigation has been published 3 weeks after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
