A vulnerability was found in MySQL Quick Admin up to 1.5.5 (Database Software) and classified as critical. This issue affects an unknown code block of the file index.php. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in index.php in EKINdesigns MySQL Quick Admin 1.5.5 and earlier, when magic_quotes_gpc is disabled, allows remote attackers to read and execute arbitrary files via a .. (dot dot) in the language cookie.
The weakness was disclosed 10/06/2008 (Website). The advisory is shared at milw0rm.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2008-4455 since 10/06/2008. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known.
