A vulnerability has been found in Ti Kan xmcd 2.6 and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects some unknown processing. The product attempts to access a file based on the filename, but it does not properly prevent that filename from identifying a link or shortcut that resolves to an unintended resource. The (1) ncsarmt and (2) ncsawrap scripts in xmcd 2.6 allows local users to overwrite arbitrary files via a symlink attack on a /tmp/Mosaic.*pid temporary file.
The weakness was disclosed 11/07/2008 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at bugs.gentoo.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2008-4994. The attack needs to be approached locally. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
