A vulnerability was found in Microsoft Internet Explorer up to 6 on Mac (Web Browser). It has been declared as problematic. Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.22, and other 5 through 6 SP1 versions, sends Referer headers containing https:// URLs in requests for http:// URLs, which allows remote attackers to obtain potentially sensitive information by reading Referer log data.
The bug was discovered 12/28/2003. The weakness was disclosed 12/24/2003 by deane as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is shared at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2003-1559 since 07/14/2008. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1592 for this issue.
It is possible to download the exploit at awstats.sourceforge.net. It is declared as proof-of-concept. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $5k-$25k.
