Symantec pcAnywhere 12.5.x through 12.5.3, and IT Management Suite pcAnywhere Solution 7.0 (aka 12.5.x) and 7.1 (aka 12.6.x), uses world-writable permissions for product-installation files, which allows local users to gain privileges by modifying a file.
The weakness was shared 01/24/2012 by Edward Torkington as SYM12-002 as confirmed security advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at symantec.com. The vendor cooperated in the coordination of the public release. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2011-3479 since 09/14/2011. The attack can only be done within the local network. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1068 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
