The manipulation of the argument lang with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in index.php in Mediatheka 4.2 allows remote attackers to include and execute arbitrary local files via a .. (dot dot) in the lang parameter.

The weakness was released 01/12/2009 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at milw0rm.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2008-5894 since 01/12/2009.
