CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Amarok 1.4.10/2.0/2.0.1 and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is the function Audible::Tag::readTag. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

Multiple integer overflows in the Audible::Tag::readTag function in metadata/audible/audibletag.cpp in Amarok 1.4.10 through 2.0.1 allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via an Audible Audio (.aa) file with a large (1) nlen or (2) vlen Tag value, each of which triggers a heap-based buffer overflow.

The bug was discovered 01/11/2009. The weakness was disclosed 01/16/2009 by Tobias Klein (Website). The advisory is shared for download at redhat.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2009-0135 since 01/16/2009. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 5 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 36306 (Mandriva Linux Security Advisory : amarok (MDVSA-2009:030-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Mandriva Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 116153 (Fedora 9 Update for Amarok (FEDORA-2009-0715)).

Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published 12 months after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (47876), Tenable (36306), SecurityFocus (BID 33210†), OSVDB (53459†) and Secunia (SA34315†). The entry VDB-45933 is pretty similar. Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
