A vulnerability was found in MODX CMS up to 0.9.6.2 (Content Management System) and classified as critical. This issue affects some unknown functionality of the file index.php. The manipulation of the argument searchid with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. SQL injection vulnerability in index.php in MODx 0.9.6.2 and earlier, when magic_quotes_gpc is disabled, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary SQL commands via the searchid parameter. NOTE: some of these details are obtained from third party information.
The weakness was presented 01/22/2009 by Gaku Mochizuki with Mitsui Bussan Secure Directions, Inc. (Website). The advisory is shared at jvn.jp. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2008-5940 since 01/21/2009. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
