Summary
A vulnerability described as problematic has been identified in KTP Computer Customer Database. This impacts an unknown function. The manipulation results in path traversal. This vulnerability is cataloged as CVE-2008-5953. Furthermore, there is an exploit available.
Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in KTP Computer Customer Database (unknown version). Affected is an unknown code block. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Directory traversal vulnerability in KTP Computer Customer Database (KTPCCD) CMS, when magic_quotes_gpc is disabled, allows remote attackers to include and execute arbitrary local files via a .. (dot dot) in the p parameter to the default URI.
The weakness was shared 01/23/2009 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at vupen.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2008-5953 since 01/23/2009. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1006.
A public exploit has been developed by CWH Underground in Perl and been published even before and not after the advisory. The exploit is shared for download at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 54 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Exploit-DB (7304), SecurityFocus (BID 33518†) and Secunia (SA32888†). The entries VDB-46045 and VDB-46043 are related to this item. Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
