Format string vulnerability in BMC PATROL Agent before 3.7.30 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via format string specifiers in an invalid version number to TCP port 3181, which are not properly handled when writing a log message.
The bug was discovered 12/08/2008. The weakness was released 01/27/2009 with Zero Day Initiative (Website). The advisory is shared for download at xforce.iss.net. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2008-5982 since 01/27/2009. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
