Memory leak in the png_handle_tEXt function in pngrutil.c in libpng before 1.2.33 rc02 and 1.4.0 beta36 allows context-dependent attackers to cause a denial of service (memory exhaustion) via a crafted PNG file.
The bug was discovered 10/27/2008. The weakness was presented 02/20/2009 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at sourceforge.net. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2008-6218 since 02/20/2009. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
