Ravenphpscripts RavenNuke 2.30 Error Message array code injection

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability has been found in Ravenphpscripts RavenNuke 2.30 and classified as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown functionality of the component Error Message Handler. The manipulation of the argument array with an unknown input leads to a code injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-94. The product constructs all or part of a code segment using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the syntax or behavior of the intended code segment. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

images/captcha.php in Raven Web Services RavenNuke 2.30, when register_globals and display_errors are enabled, allows remote attackers to determine the existence of local files by sending requests with full pathnames in the aFonts array parameter, and then observing the error messages, which differ between existing and nonexistent pathnames.

The weakness was published 02/22/2009 by Janek Vind "waraxe" with waraxe (Website). The advisory is shared at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2009-0674 since 02/22/2009. The attack can be launched remotely. The successful exploitation needs a single authentication. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059 for this issue.

A public exploit has been developed by waraxe and been published even before and not after the advisory. It is possible to download the exploit at exploit-db.com. It is declared as highly functional. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 6 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k.
