A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in Linux Kernel (Operating System) (affected version not known). This affects the function stnes of the component iproute. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a link following vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-59. The product attempts to access a file based on the filename, but it does not properly prevent that filename from identifying a link or shortcut that resolves to an unintended resource. iproute2 before 3.3.0 allows local users to overwrite arbitrary files via a symlink attack on a temporary file used by (1) configure or (2) examples/dhcp-client-script.
The weakness was released 02/15/2012 as Bug 797878 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). It is possible to read the advisory at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2012-1088 since 02/14/2012. Attacking locally is a requirement. A authentication is required for exploitation.
