A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Apple iOS up to 5.01 (Smartphone Operating System). Affected by this issue is an unknown code of the component WebKit. WebKit, as used in Apple iOS before 5.1 and iTunes before 10.6, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (memory corruption and application crash) via a crafted web site, a different vulnerability than other WebKit CVEs listed in APPLE-SA-2012-03-07-1 and APPLE-SA-2012-03-07-2.
The weakness was released 03/07/2012 by Lei Zhang (Slawomir Blazek) with Chromium Development Community as HT5190 as confirmed knowledge base article (Website). The advisory is shared for download at support.apple.com. The public release was coordinated with the vendor. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2012-0593 since 01/12/2012. The attack may be launched remotely. A simple authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available.
