Details
A vulnerability was found in Simple Machines Forum up to 1.1.6 (Forum Software). It has been classified as problematic. This affects an unknown part of the file index.php. The manipulation of the argument theme_dir with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, and integrity. The summary by CVE is:
Directory traversal vulnerability in index.php in Simple Machines Forum (SMF) 1.0 before 1.0.15 and 1.1 before 1.1.7 allows remote authenticated users to configure arbitrary local files for execution via directory traversal sequences in the value of the theme_dir field during a jsoption action, related to Sources/QueryString.php and Sources/Themes.php, as demonstrated by a local .gif file in attachments/ with PHP code that was uploaded through a profile2 action to index.php.
