Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2000 SP3, 2002 SP3, and 2003 SP3 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via crafted sound data in a file that uses a PowerPoint 4.0 native file format, leading to a "pointer overwrite" and memory corruption, aka "Legacy File Format Vulnerability," a different vulnerability than CVE-2009-0223, CVE-2009-0226, CVE-2009-0227, and CVE-2009-1137.

The weakness was disclosed 05/12/2009 by Nicolas Joly with VUPEN Security (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2009-0222 since 01/20/2009. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The pricing for an exploit might be around USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 08/11/2021). The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1059 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

It is declared as proof-of-concept.
