A vulnerability has been found in Microsoft PowerPoint 2002 (Presentation Software) and classified as very critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown functionality in the library PP7X32.DLL of the component Sound. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Multiple stack-based buffer overflows in the PowerPoint 95 importer (PP7X32.DLL) in Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2000 SP3, 2002 SP3, and 2003 SP3 allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via an inconsistent record length in sound data in a file that uses a PowerPoint 95 (PPT95) native file format, aka "PP7 Memory Corruption Vulnerability," a different vulnerability than CVE-2009-1128.

The weakness was shared 05/12/2009 by iDefense Labs with VeriSign iDefense Labs (Website). The advisory is available at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability was named CVE-2009-1129 since 03/25/2009. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 08/11/2021).

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 38742 (MS09-017: Vulnerabilities in Microsoft Office PowerPoint Could Allow Remote Code Execution (967340)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
