CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Novell eDirectory 8.8 (Directory Service Software). This affects an unknown part of the component LDAP RelativeToFullDN Parser. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

Multiple stack-based buffer overflows in the jclient._Java_novell_jclient_JClient_defineClass@20 function in jclient.dll in the Tomcat web server in Novell iManager 2.7, 2.7.3, and 2.7.3 FTF2 allow remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary code via the (1) EnteredClassID or (2) NewClassName parameter to nps/servlet/webacc.

The weakness was presented 03/13/2012 by Francisco Falcon with CORE Security Technologies (Website). The advisory is shared at novell.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2010-1929 since 05/11/2010. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. A authentication is necessary for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.

A public exploit has been developed in Python. The exploit is shared for download at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 61709 (Novell eDirectory < 8.8 SP6 Patch 5 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Misc. and running in the context r. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 11849 (Novell iManager before 2.7.4/2.7.3 FTF4 Multiple Vulnerabilities).

Upgrading to version 8.8 SP6 Patch 5 (20606.01) eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (59694), Exploit-DB (14010), Tenable (61709), SecurityFocus (BID 40480†) and OSVDB (80094†).
