A vulnerability was found in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6/7/8/9/10 (Web Browser). It has been classified as problematic. Affected is an unknown code of the component Integrity Process Handler. Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 through 9, and 10 Consumer Preview, allows remote attackers to bypass Protected Mode or cause a denial of service (memory corruption) by leveraging access to a Low integrity process, as demonstrated by VUPEN during a Pwn2Own competition at CanSecWest 2012.
The issue has been introduced in 03/16/2010. The weakness was presented 03/08/2012 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at arstechnica.com. The public release happened without coordination with the vendor. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2012-1545 since 03/09/2012. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 723 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k.
