js/src/xpconnect/src/xpcwrappedjsclass.cpp in Mozilla Firefox before 3.0.11, Thunderbird before 2.0.0.22, and SeaMonkey before 1.1.17 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary web script with the privileges of a chrome object, as demonstrated by the browser sidebar and the FeedWriter.

The weakness was presented 06/12/2009 by moz_bug_r_a4 (Website). The advisory is available at vupen.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2009-1841 since 05/29/2009. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1059 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 43755 (CentOS 5 : firefox (CESA-2009:1095)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CentOS Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 116484 (Red Hat Update for Xulrunner Firefox (RHSA-2009:1095-1)).

Upgrading to version 1.0.9 eliminates this vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 6825.
