Simple Linux Utility for Resource Management (SLURM) 1.2 and 1.3 before 1.3.14 does not properly set supplementary groups before invoking (1) sbcast from the slurmd daemon or (2) strigger from the slurmctld daemon, which might allow local SLURM users to modify files and gain privileges.
The bug was discovered 04/21/2009. The weakness was published 06/16/2009 by Thijs Kinkhorst (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2009-2084 since 06/16/2009. The exploitation is known to be easy. Attacking locally is a requirement. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
