WebVPN on the Cisco Adaptive Security Appliances (ASA) device with software 8.0(4), 8.1.2, and 8.2.1 allows remote attackers to bypass certain protection mechanisms involving URL rewriting and HTML rewriting, and conduct cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks, by modifying the first hex-encoded character in a /+CSCO+ URI, aka Bug ID CSCsy80705.
The weakness was presented 06/25/2009 by David Byrne with Trustwave's SpiderLabs (Website). The advisory is shared for download at vupen.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2009-1202 since 03/31/2009. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007.
It is declared as proof-of-concept.
