A vulnerability has been found in Apache Wicket and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown part. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in Apache Wicket 1.4.x before 1.4.20 and 1.5.x before 1.5.5 allows remote attackers to read arbitrary web-application files via a relative pathname in a URL for a Wicket resource that corresponds to a null package.
The weakness was disclosed 03/22/2012 by Sebastian van Erk (Website). The advisory is available at wicket.apache.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2012-1089 since 02/14/2012. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1006 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
