The DS\NDSD component in Novell eDirectory 8.8 before SP5 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (ndsd core dump) via an LDAP request containing multiple . (dot) wildcard characters in the Relative Distinguished Name (RDN).
The weakness was disclosed 07/14/2009 by Alin Rad Pop with Novell (Website). The advisory is shared for download at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2009-2456 since 07/14/2009. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation.
