A vulnerability was found in ISC dhcp 3.0.1 (Network Management Software). It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects the function configtest. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a link following vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-59. The configtest function in the Red Hat dhcpd init script for DHCP 3.0.1 in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 3 allows local users to overwrite arbitrary files via a symlink attack on an unspecified temporary file, related to the "dhcpd -t" command.
The weakness was released 07/17/2009 by Tomas Hoger as Bug 510024 as confirmed bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is available at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2009-1893 since 06/02/2009. Local access is required to approach this attack. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation.
