A vulnerability was found in ISC dhcp 3.0.1 (Network Management Software). It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects the function configtest. The configtest function in the Red Hat dhcpd init script for DHCP 3.0.1 in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 3 allows local users to overwrite arbitrary files via a symlink attack on an unspecified temporary file, related to the "dhcpd -t" command.

The weakness was released 07/17/2009 by Tomas Hoger as Bug 510024 as confirmed bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is available at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2009-1893 since 06/02/2009. Local access is required to approach this attack. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation.
