A vulnerability has been found in Joompolitan Com Livechat 1.0 (Chat Software) and classified as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown code of the file getChat.php. Multiple SQL injection vulnerabilities in the Live Chat (com_livechat) component 1.0 for Joomla! allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary SQL commands via the last parameter to (1) getChat.php, (2) getChatRoom.php, and (3) getSavedChatRooms.php.
The weakness was disclosed 07/30/2009 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2008-6881. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1505 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. By approaching the search of inurl:getChat.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 35109 (Live Chat Component for Joomla! 'last' Parameter Multiple SQLi), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CGI abuses.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 6641.
