Adobe Flash Player up to 9.0.48.0 memory corruption

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Adobe Flash Player (Multimedia Player Software). It has been classified as critical. This affects an unknown part. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

Heap-based buffer overflow in Adobe Flash Player before 9.0.246.0 and 10.x before 10.0.32.18, and Adobe AIR before 1.5.2, allows attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code via unspecified vectors involving URL parsing.

The weakness was disclosed 07/30/2009 by iDefense with iDEFENSE (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at vupen.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2009-1868 since 06/01/2009. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.

The exploit is shared for download at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 40447 (Adobe AIR < 1.5.2 Multiple Vulnerabilities (APSB09-10)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 116529 (Adobe Acrobat and Reader Remote Code Execution Vulnerabilities (APSA09-03 and APSB09-10)).

Upgrading to version 9.0.114.0 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published before and not just after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (52185), Exploit-DB (33133), Tenable (40447), SecurityFocus (BID 35902†) and OSVDB (56776†). The entries VDB-4049, VDB-49229, VDB-49228 and VDB-49226 are pretty similar. Statistical analysis made it clear that VulDB provides the best quality for vulnerability data.
