A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in 2532gigs 1.2.2. This issue affects an unknown code of the file settings.php. The manipulation of the argument language with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Multiple directory traversal vulnerabilities in 2532designs 2532|Gigs 1.2.2 Stable, when register_globals is enabled and magic_quotes_gpc is disabled, allow remote attackers to include and execute arbitrary local files via a .. (dot dot) in the language parameter to (1) settings.php, (2) deleteuser.php, (3) mini_calendar.php, (4) manage_venues.php, and (5) manage_gigs.php, a different vector than CVE-2007-4585.
The weakness was disclosed 08/05/2009 (Website). The advisory is shared at milw0rm.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2008-6901 since 08/05/2009. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.
A public exploit has been developed by Osirys and been published even before and not after the advisory. The exploit is available at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept.
