A vulnerability was found in Apache Struts (Programming Tool Software) (version unknown). It has been rated as critical. This issue affects an unknown function of the file XSLTResult.java of the component File Upload. The manipulation as part of a XSLT File leads to a privileges management vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-269. The product does not properly assign, modify, track, or check privileges for an actor, creating an unintended sphere of control for that actor. Impacted is confidentiality, and integrity.
The weakness was shared 03/23/2012 by voidloafer as File 111133/Apa as not defined mailinglist post (Packetstorm). The advisory is shared at packetstormsecurity.org. The public release happened without involvement of Apache. The attack may be initiated remotely. The successful exploitation requires a simple authentication. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1068 for this issue.
A public exploit has been developed by voidloafer in XSLT and been published immediately after the advisory. The exploit is available at packetstormsecurity.org. It is declared as proof-of-concept. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $25k-$100k.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
